Following reports in a national newspaper that the Government was considering revoking the duty on relevant authorities that they must seek to conserve and enhance natural beauty when taking decisions that effect land in a protected landscapes, the Dedham Vale Society supported the response of the National Landscapes Association and Campaign to Protect National Parks on a response.

The result was a letter to Government signed by our Chairman Charles Clover and over 200 other influential people in the sector (including local National Landscape chairs) putting forward a counter narrative that protected landscapes are of enormous benefit to society. The Government has since indicated it is not currently planning to revoke the enhanced duty. We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the interpretation we won in the Manningtree Station Car Park case is not lost.

Many thanks to all those that sought to ensure the legislation was not revoked and for their timely and forceful responses.
